It’s election season in the RTA! Every two years, all Building Representative seats become available, allowing members to run for the position. Each building has a set number of representative spots based on membership, and if more people run than there are spots, we’ll hold an election. This process is how we maintain our union’s strength and ensure that every member’s voice is heard throughout the district.
What Building Reps Do
- Attend all Executive Board meetings and bring information back to your building.
- Share Board recommendations and organize monthly building meetings.Hear concerns from members on issues related to working conditions.
- Maintain a list of unit members and invite potential members to join.
- Meet with building administration regularly.
- Be trained in Weingarten Rights and represent members in disciplinary and Level I grievance meetings.
- Serve a two-year elected term and receive a $1,000 annual stipend
